Farnsworth Group Takes First Place in Gateway Design Competition
2015-04-27

Farnsworth Group Inc. was awarded first place in the Warehouse District Gateway Design Competition on Saturday. Sponsored by the Peoria section of the American Institute of Architects, the contest sought creative ideas for a “doorway” for both vehicles and pedestrians to the city’s historic Warehouse District.

The design developed by Farnsworth Group’s multi-disciplinary team hints at the district’s storied past, incorporating whiskey barrels and steel I-beams to honor the district’s industrial roots. Repurposed bricks from demolished buildings help keep a sense of that history while reflecting recent renovation efforts. At night, the design comes alive with the use of multi-colored LED lights inside the steel columns and pathway lights embedded in the pavement. These elements combined embrace the Warehouse District’s potential to rejuvenate downtown’s premier urban neighborhood - where streets are animated with people living, working, and playing.

This collaborative effort by Farnsworth Group’s architects, landscape architects and civil engineers is a prime example of the comprehensive approach clients can expect with the full-service firm.

All of the submitted designs will be on display for the next few weeks at the Peoria Riverfront Museum, where visitors can cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award.
