Reconstruction Extends Roadway

Farnsworth Group provided Phase I, Phase II and Phase III engineering services for the reconstruction of an urban collector, which included reconstructing the roadway to extend the existing three-lane cross section from US Route 45 through Willenborg Street and upgrading the sections to 80,000-pound Truck Route standards.

Phase I, Phase II and Phase III engineering services were funded through a combination of Federal, State, and Local funds.

Duties for Phase I included completing the Project Report and environmental clearance coordination. During Phase II, construction plans, specifications and estimates were prepared for the proposed roadway, driveway, sidewalk and utility modifications along the corridor. Also included in Phase II services were the completion of a hydraulic report and structural design documents for the replacement of an existing box culvert with a new double 9’ by 5’ box culvert structure.

In July 2012, Phase III construction was completed on the “West” portion of the project, which included all driveway, sidewalk and utility modifications from US Route 45 to the proposed box culvert (approximately 1,200 LF). During Phase III, Farnsworth Group provided daily on-site construction engineering, material testing and record documentation services to ensure that the improvements were built in accordance with the plans and specifications. Daily coordination was maintained with City of Effingham personnel throughout the duration of construction, and representatives of IDOT District 7 were provided with progress summary reports on both a weekly and monthly basis.
