Farnsworth Group and CORE Construction were the design-build team for a replacement fire station at the intersection of Shepard Road and Hershey Road to provide better coverage and improve response times to the growing east side of Normal. The previous Fire Station 2 on College Avenue was decommissioned with its personnel and apparatus reassigned to the new station.
The design included three drive-through bays for up to six apparatus, eight sleeping rooms, two offices, a watch room, physical agility space, dayroom, kitchen and dining, gear room, and apparatus support spaces. Per ICC 500 code, the building also will have a storm shelter space.
