Our Story
More than 130 years ago, Farnsworth Group’s story began with a local land surveyor helping communities across Central Illinois.
They traveled from community to community, helping municipalities understand the land they depended on, establish boundaries, plan infrastructure, and prepare for growth. Each project was built on relationships, trust, and a commitment to helping local communities succeed.
Those early experiences shaped the values that continue to guide our firm today. Working closely with communities throughout Illinois taught us that successful projects begin with strong relationships and a genuine understanding of the people they serve. It also revealed that communities often need more than a single service or discipline. As our clients’ needs evolved, so did we. What began as a land surveying practice expanded into engineering, architecture, commissioning, and a full range of integrated design services.
While our reach has grown far beyond Central Illinois, our purpose remains remarkably consistent. Today, Farnsworth Group is a nationwide, employee-owned design firm serving clients across the country, but we continue to approach every project with the same mindset that guided those early surveying journeys: put the client first, invest in communities, and help create places where people can thrive.
