The Des Moines International Airport was undergoing significant changes. A new terminal design was in the works, which required the relocation of existing companies within the area. Des Moines Flying Service, an aircraft sales service, was one of the first companies relocated to make room for the new terminal.

The project included a large maintenance hangar surrounded by an administration area. These areas were separated by a monumental corridor coined the “Blade,” which was eye-catching from both the interior and exterior.

The design focused on simplicity and hierarchy to accentuate the client’s careful dedication to balancing administration and aircraft maintenance.

Structurally, the project was comprised of four different pre-engineered buildings. The use of pre-engineered buildings not only contributed to the desired industrial aesthetic but also helped maintain a budget-conscious approach.
