Farnsworth Group provided engineering design services for the 40,000 SF renovation of an existing office space, transforming the lower level of a two-story building into a modern broadcast and operations facility.
The project included new office space, television studios and control rooms, a data center, employee amenities, and enhanced outdoor gathering areas.
A key challenge was maintaining the operational readiness of the building’s second floor for future tenants while modifying interconnected mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Farnsworth Group designed extensive infrastructure upgrades, including modifications to the water-source heat pump system, cooling tower replacement, hydronic system improvements, lighting and power upgrades, a large emergency power system with generator and UPS backup, and specialized power distribution supporting satellite communication equipment.
Working closely with the owner and design-build team, Farnsworth Group identified opportunities to retain selected building systems, maximizing value while meeting project goals. The team’s flexibility and responsiveness supported evolving project requirements throughout design and construction. A creative phased emergency power solution also allowed the facility to become operational before the permanent generator was delivered, helping keep the project on schedule and minimizing operational delays.
