Urbana Park District had outgrown its leased recreation space, which no longer met the needs of its programs or the community. The District envisioned a new facility that could expand recreation and fitness opportunities while creating a welcoming destination for residents.
Farnsworth Group provided planning and design services and assisted the District in successfully securing a PARC grant for the new Indoor Recreation and Fitness Center. The facility includes gym space, a walking track, offices, and flexible program rooms.
Sustainable site features extend the experience outdoors with walking trails, native plantings, a rain garden, irrigation cistern, and stormwater wetland. A planned second phase provides opportunities for continued growth with a future splash pad and basketball courts.
Together, the facility and site give the Park District greater capacity to serve the community today while providing flexibility for future recreational needs.
