Aqua Illinois 24” Water Transmission Main

Farnsworth Group provided professional services for a study to provide a new water supply and treatment for the Village of University Park and the southeast part of Will County, including the potential future South Suburban Airport. Alternative water supplies evaluated included ground water supply with lime softening treatment at University Park; connection to Lake Michigan water supply; and a 14-20 mile pipeline corridor from the Aqua Illinois system in Manteno, IL to University Park, IL. The report recommended the 20 mile pipeline and was reviewed by the Utility.

Farnsworth Group provided easement acquisition services and negotiated with private property owners and governmental agencies for easements and right-of-way. Based on the easements and right-of-way negotiations, the final 14-mile route for the 24” water transmission main was determined and obtained.

In addition, Farnsworth Group provided the design phase engineering services for this 24” water transmission main project. The design services included topographic survey, preparation of plans and specifications, engineer’s construction cost estimate, pipe restraint design, hydraulic surge analysis, erosion control, traffic control/detour plans, and cathodic protection.

The project was bid out in six segments. The final three segments were complete and in service by the end of 2017.
