Addition Commissioned for Presidential Library

Under a state retainer contract, Farnsworth Group provided total building commissioning services for a two-story addition to the Mitchell Memorial Library to serve as the new home of the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library at Mississippi State University.

The addition also contained a gallery dedicated to the Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana. The project included renovations to portions of the existing building. Commissioned systems included mechanical/electrical/plumbing and controls, as well as envelop systems including roofing, exterior walls/cavities, and windows/curtainwalls.

Our commissioning reviews and onsite assessments identified design and construction issues and suggested resolutions.  These included incorrect installation of counterflashing on a standing seam metal roof that could have led to damaging water infiltration.

The Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library contains correspondence, research notes, artifacts, photographs, scrapbooks, and memorabilia. It also includes information on Grant’s childhood from his birth in 1822, his later military career, Civil War triumphs, tenure as commanding general after the war, presidency, and his post-White House years until his death in 1885.
