Mississippi State University Home to Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library
Under a state IDIQ contract, Farnsworth Group is providing building commissioning services as part of the total building commissioning of a renovation and two-story addition to the Mitchell Memorial Library at Mississippi State University. Envelope systems being commissioned include roofing, exterior walls / cavities, and windows / curtainwalls. The addition consists of approximately 32,000 GSF and a construction budget of approximately $6.5 million. The Architect of Record is Foil Wyatt Architects and Planners, PLLC.
As an example of the benefits of the building envelope commissioning assessments, during a construction site visit, our building envelope specialist observed that counter-flashing had been installed underneath the standing seam metal roof, which could lead to moisture infiltration under the roof and into the building. However, the specifications had called for this flashing to be above the metal roof. We recommended correcting this issue to prevent the water infiltration into the building assembly. Installation corrections during construction can be far less costly than corrections after construction has ended.
Mitchell Memorial Library is also home to the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library. The Presidential library contains correspondence, research notes, artifacts, photographs, scrapbooks, and memorabilia and includes information on Grant’s childhood from his birth in 1822, his later military career, Civil War triumphs, tenure as commanding general after the war, presidency, and his post-White House years until his death in 1885.
